How to Change Your Google Account 2FA Secret Key (Update Google Authenticator Key)
If you have 2-Step Verification enabled on your Google account, the 2FA secret key is a crucial security component. Many users don't know how to change or update this key. Below is a step-by-step tutorial to help you update your secret key and maximize your account's security.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Go to your Google Account settings
Open the Google Account management page:
Log in to your Google account.
On the left-hand menu, find and click on the Security tab.
Step 2: Find the Authenticator option
Inside the Security tab, scroll down until you find the Authenticator option and click on it.
Step 3: Verify your identity
The page will redirect you to a verification screen. You will be prompted to enter your Google account password to confirm it is really you.
Step 4: Change the app
Once your password is verified, you will enter the Authenticator settings page. Click on Change authenticator app.
Step 5: Reveal the secret key
A pop-up window displaying a QR code will appear, asking you to scan it.
Instead of scanning, click the Can't scan it? option located below the QR code.
Step 6: Copy your new key
A string of characters—your new secret key—will appear.
This code will be used in the bot @sheeridvn_bot
Long-press or highlight to copy this secret key, and then click Next.
Step 7: Generate a verification code
You are now on the final step, which requires a 6-digit verification code. Take the new secret key you just copied and paste it into an online 2FA generator, such as:
Step 8: Verify and Confirm Click to generate the code on the website.
Copy the generated 6-digit code, go back to the Google setup page, paste it into the verification box, and click Verify (or Confirm).
OK, changes complete! If you receive an error message when entering the verification code, please cancel and try again.
